WEEK 1 - Creative thinking, The Journey Reflection

On 27th July, 1030am, as part of the creative thinking process, i take a journey through my unexplored neighborhood Tiong Bahru, which is a culturally rich site and art pieces like sculpture and art murals can be seen.

We see creativity in the older architectures where the building's angles is vastly different from the modern buildings which are less bold and exaggerated. Shapes can be seen clearly from spheres to hexagons.

Another aspect of creative thinking is the need understand history. Tiong Bahru has historical sites like Tan Tock Seng Clan's graves which serve as a reminder of how far Singapore has come and how much further we can go.

Another historical site is the bird corner which signifies many traditions and practice that have died out. This shows how much we can learn from studying the past, not only observing the present.

Stress is a constant companion and a distraction but fortunately Singapore is a green city where we can gain few moments away from the buzz of city life and relax while enjoying the greenery.

The present also blends seamlessly with the past, with cafes and bookstores littering throughout the neighborhood. Creativity is displayed where for example the shop places beer barrels which is uncommon to attract attention or using lines to hang up poetry creating a unique suspension effect.

It was a good journey in retrospect though the weather was hot and at the end tiring. Still, I could fester up more courage to play and explore the surroundings more as i tend to stick to the known rather than venturing into the unknown.
